About the Workshop

We are running an intensive "Tango in a Day" workshop, on Saturday 16th January 2016, in Mill Hill, North London, from 2pm – 6pm.

This is designed for people new to Tango, or wanting to review your basic technique.

No partner required, but numbers are limited, and we will match leader and follower numbers, so book your place now!

BONUS: In the evening, we will run a "Milonga Mill Hill", a social dance in the evening, from 7:30pm - 11pm.

Milonguita attendance is only half-price to all workshop attendees - £5 pay on the day.

So:

  • If you've always wanted to start Tango, this is your chance.
  • If you've tried and liked Tango, but then didn't return because life got in the way, this will help you re-start your learning.
  • If you're looking to revise and improve your core technique, this is the workshop for you.

Syllabus: the workshop details


Session 1: Connection and Walking

Summary: Getting you started with Argentine Tango, based on connection, core movements and key lead-and-follow concepts.

Topics will include:

  • Walking to the Music
  • Developing the Tango Connection

Session 2: Pivots and Ochos:

Summary: Expanding your core repertoire of movements.

Topics will include Forward and Back Ochos.


Session 3: Close Embrace

Summary: Developing a true tango embrace and connection.

Topics will include:

  • Developing a close embrace
  • Balanceo movements
  • Introduction to adornos

Session 4: Musicality and Social Dancing

Summary: Transforming your marching into dancing.

Topics will include:

  • Pauses and tempo changes
  • Decorations with musicality: amagues, golpecitos, lapizes and castigadas

The Venue

St. Paul's Church has a lovely sprung dance floor, with a large hall, and full facilities including plenty of parking.

By public Transport

From Mill Hill East Tube Station (Northern Line), take the 240 bus in the direction of Edgware. Alight at either the Mill Hill School or The Three Hammers Public House stop.

From Mill Hill Broadway (First Capital Connect), take the 240 bus (stop outside WH Smith) in the direction of Golders Green. Alight at either the Mill Hill School or The Three Hammers Public House stop.

Parking

There is plenty of free parking on the road outside the venue.

NOTE: the three spaces immediately outside the venue are reserved parking.

Evening event: Milonga Mill Hill

Saturday 16th Jan, 7:30 - 11pm, Mill Hill

We're having a special Mill Hill Milonga, with a lovely set of music throughout the evening, free wine and empanadas! It;s a great opportunity for you to try out your new-found skills on the dance floor, in a relaxing and supportive environment.

Entrance is normally £10 in advance or £12 on the door, but workshop attendees can attend for an extra £5 on the day.
